Week Two Power Rankings

The Minnesota Vikings played their first regular game season with Brett Favre and were victorious. Did they move up in our power rankings? Which teams dropped and which teams moved up? Details inside.

1) Minnesota Vikings: The game plan worked to perfection on offense last week. Limit the number of throws by Brett Favre and hand the ball off to Adrian Peterson. The front-four dominated Cleveland's offensive line.

Last Ranking: 2

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), C (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), LB (veteran depth), S (veteran depth)

2) Pittsburgh Steelers: A discouraging sign on offense last week from the lack of success from their running game. Mewelde Moore should see the field more if Willie Parker and Rashard Mendenhall continue to struggle. Defensively, teams might find success against the secondary with SS Troy Polamalu out of the lineup. The Titans really moved the ball in the air after Polamalu left the game.

Last Ranking: 1

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), OT (veteran depth), OLB (depth), S (depth)

3) Indianapolis Colts: There's a concern with the loss of WR Anthony Gonzalez, but they did run the ball well last week. Defensively, they are looking more physical.

Last Ranking: 3

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth)

4) Atlanta Falcons: Last week's game shows you how teams will have trouble stopping this offense. Michael Turner was controlled last week, but Tony Gonzalez hurt the Dolphin secondary for big plays. The defense was surprisingly solid. It will be interesting to see if the defense can continue its success.

Last Ranking: 5

Needs Still to be Filled: OT (veteran depth), DT (depth), DE (depth), OLB (depth)

5) New York Giants: Solid job by Eli Manning with his accuracy and timing to his passing targets. It's encouraging that they moved the ball in the air without success with their running game.

Last Ranking: 4

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), LB (veteran depth)

6) Philadelphia Eagles: The short-term loss of starting QB Donovan McNabb could be an issue. Great job by defensive coordinator Sean McDermott with his blitz schemes against the Panther offense. He confused Jake Delhomme and the offensive line seemingly all game.

Last Ranking: 7

Needs Still to be Filled: TE (depth), OT (LT/RT depth), DT (veteran depth)

7) Baltimore Ravens: As expected, offensive coordinator Cam Cameron let Joe Flacco throw the ball more on first down. What we saw from Flacco in the preseason, he was able to carry over against the Chiefs--that's a very high level of play. The defense surprisingly wasn't dominant against the Chief offense.

Last Ranking: 9

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), ILB (depth), S (veteran depth)

8) San Diego Chargers: LaDainian Tomlinson has to find a way to stay healthy so this team can find balance on offense. The big plays the defense gave up in the passing game last week were troubling.

Last Ranking: 6

Needs Still to be Filled: OT (depth), G (depth), DE (depth), S (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

9) New England Patriots: Their offensive line struggled to protect Tom Brady last week. That could be a big problem against better defenses. They'll get a big test this week against the Jets. The defense still has problems finding a pass rush.

Last Ranking: 8

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), LT (depth)

10) Green Bay Packers: The defense is the story for this football team. They carried the offense last week which was completely unexpected.

Last Ranking: 12

Needs Still to be Filled: QB (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), DE (veteran depth), OLB (pass rushing depth), S (depth)

11) New York Jets: Very encouraging sign that rookie QB Mark Sanchez performed at a high level last week. You still have to wonder how their less than average group of receivers will do against a good secondary. The defense, despite missing to key starters, was all over the Texan offense like a cheap suit.

Last Ranking: 15

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (starter/depth), G (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), DE (depth), S (depth)

12) New Orleans Saints: The Saints may have finally found the inside runner they've been looking for in Mike Bell. No one can stop this offense with any consistency. The defense, however, has to play at least average if they want to have a good chance to win each week.

Last Ranking: 13

Needs Still to be Filled: DT (depth), DE (depth), OLB (depth)

13) Tennessee Titans: They were physical on defense last week which was expected. The issue for this team going forward is can they continue the success in the passing game that they had last week?

Last Ranking: 10

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), LB (OLB/MLB veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

14) Dallas Cowboys: It was encouraging to see Roy Williams performing at a higher level last week than he did at any time last year with Dallas. The offense looks to be solid, but what happened to the run defense last week? Where was the pass rush?

Last Ranking: 17

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), OLB (pass rushing depth), CB (veteran depth)

15) Carolina Panthers: Jake Delhomme has to play at least average if this team wants to have a chance to win every week. His last two performances basically gave the team no chance to win.

Last Ranking: 11

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (depth), OT (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), DT (veteran depth), CB (nickel/depth), S (veteran depth)

16) Chicago Bears: Jay Cutler has to play much better than last week if this team wants to win consistently. Can the Bear overcome their injuries at linebacker and the inconsistency of the secondary?

Last Ranking: 16

Needs Still to be Filled: QB (veteran depth), RB (veteran depth upgrade), WR (veteran depth), MLB (depth), OLB (depth)

17) Seattle Seahawks: The offensive line held up last week despite injuries to key starters. The defense looked improved over last season, but look who they were playing.

Last Ranking: 19

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), OT (depth), MLB (depth)

18) Miami Dolphins: They are going to have problems scoring each week, but at least the defense is good enough to keep this team competitive.

Last Ranking: 14

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), OT (veteran depth), ILB (depth)

19) San Francisco 49ers: They have to run the ball better if offensive coordinator Jimmy Raye's scheme is going to work. The defense did a very good job of controlling Kurt Warner last week.

Last Ranking: 23

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), OLB (pass rushing depth)

20) Arizona Cardinals: The injuries at receiver are an issue and they need to find a way to run the ball better.

Last Ranking: 15

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (depth), G (depth), C (depth), DE (depth), ILB (veteran depth), CB (depth)

21) Cincinnati Bengals: Their offensive line struggled with consistency last week as did QB Carson Palmer. The defense is good enough to keep the team in most games.

Last Ranking: 22

Needs Still to be Filled: LG (upgrade), RT (depth), C (veteran depth), DT (depth), DE (pass rusher), CB (depth/nickel), S (veteran depth)

22) Denver Broncos: The offense struggled to find success in the passing game, but the revamped defense was very aggressive against a good Bengal offense.

Last Ranking: 26

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth), S (veteran depth)

23) Washington Redskins: Despite the injuries that the Giants had in the secondary last week, the Redskins couldn't find enough success in the passing game.

Last Ranking: 21

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), OT (depth), DE (depth), OLB (depth), S (veteran depth)

24) Oakland Raiders: I'm sure they would tell you they should have won last week's game against the Chargers. It's obvious that this team can run the football, but they have to find a way to stop teams consistently on defense in order to have a chance to win each week.

Last Ranking: 28

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), DT (depth), OLB (depth), S (veteran depth)

25) Jacksonville Jaguars: This team was competitive on defense, but other than Maurice Jones-Drew on offense, it's hard to see how they will be able to move the ball consistently.

Last Ranking: 25

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), TE (depth), DE (depth), DT (veteran depth), LB (ILB/OLB-veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

26) Buffalo Bills: They almost pulled off a huge upset last week and their makeshift offensive line surprisingly held up well. They suffered some injuries on defense which will make it tough to win each week.

Last Ranking: 27

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), LT (depth), MLB (depth), OLB (veteran depth)

27) Houston Texans: Their offensive line was dominated all game by the Jet front seven. And where was their pass rush on defense? The defense collapsed against the run in the second half.

Last Ranking: 18

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (depth), DE (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth), S (veteran depth)

28) Cleveland Browns: Brady Quinn struggled with his mechanics last week and it didn't help that his offensive line got dominated by Minnesota's front-four.

Last Ranking: 24

Needs Still to be Filled: LT/RT (depth), TE (pass catcher), OLB (pass rusher), S (FS/SS depth), CB (veteran depth)

29) Kansas City Chiefs: They played a competitive game last week against the Ravens and their offensive line did well in pass blocking. However, the defense has to find a pass rush in order for this team to have a chance to win.

Last Ranking: 32

Needs Still to be Filled: G (upgrade), DE (depth), OLB (depth), CB (depth)

30) St. Louis Rams: They were competitive for a half last week, but it's hard to see how this team will move the ball on offense. Defensively, they need to find a way to muster up a pass rush.

Last Ranking: 29

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (depth), MLB (veteran depth), OLB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

31) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Veteran QB Byron Leftwich actually played well last week and they ran the well. However, the defense was poor especially in the back end.

Last Ranking: 30

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (depth), RT (depth), LT (depth), DE (depth), CB (depth/nickel)

32) Detroit Lions: Not a great debut by rookie signal caller Matthew Stafford last week. But there were also some encouraging signs. The defense really has issues which won't be fixed any time soon.

Last Ranking: 31

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (depth), DT (depth), DE (depth), OLB (depth), CB (speed)
