Week Ten Team Rankings

Scout.com's Adam Caplan has watched every key play in each game this season through Week Nine. Which teams are moving up? Which teams are moving down? What are the personnel needs of each team? Details inside.

1) New Orleans Saints: Who would have thought they would have one of the NFL's best running games? Defensive coordinator Gregg Williams should be up for some sort of an assistant coach of the year award. The only negative that's apparent is their run defense.

Last Ranking: 1

Needs Still to be Filled: RT (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), DT (depth), DE (depth), SLB (veteran depth)

2) Pittsburgh Steelers: This is one of the NFL's most complete teams and they can beat their opponent in a variety of ways. It's taken them a long time to figure it out, but now they have a solid running game. Defensively, they haven't lost a beat despite missing some key players.

Last Ranking: 3

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), OLB (depth)

3) Indianapolis Colts: The personnel losses on defense will eventually catch up with them, but as a unit, they're still sound. It's apparent that they know they can't run the ball, so they're going to throw it 40 or more times each week in order to win.

Last Ranking: 2

Needs Still to be Filled: RT (veteran depth), SLB (veteran depth), WLB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

4) Minnesota Vikings: The addition of veteran Brett Favre has finally given this team stability at the quarterback position--at least for one season. It's amazing how good of a receiver Sidney Rice has become now that he's healthy. The back end of the defense, however, is still a concern going forward.

Last Ranking: 4

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), C (veteran depth), MLB (veteran depth), WLB (veteran depth), SLB (veteran depth), S (veteran depth)

5) New England Patriots: QB Tom Brady is starting to put it together like he did two years ago. Defensively, the secondary is showing improvement of late and rookie CB Darius Butler is starting to show why they used a second-round pick on him.

Last Ranking: 7

Needs Still to be Filled: QB (veteran depth), WR (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), ILB (depth)

6) Cincinnati Bengals: No team is getting better balance on offense than Cincinnati. There's a concern that with veteran WR Chris Henry lost for the season, they'll have problems getting the ball down field. Defensive coordinator Mike Zimmer has his unit playing with tremendous discipline. CB Johnathan Joseph might get some consideration for the Pro Bowl. When is the last time a Bengal defensive back made the Pro Bowl?

Last Ranking: 8

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), DT (depth), CB (depth/nickel)

7) Dallas Cowboys: While he's not been as consistent as one would like, QB Tony Romo has shown improvement of late. Still, they have to find a way to run the ball better. The defense is starting to hit its stride and they're getting consistent pressure on the quarterback. One of the keys on that side of the ball has been the gradual improvement from second-year CB Mike Jenkins.

Last Ranking: 11

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), OLB (pass rushing depth), CB (veteran depth)

8) Atlanta Falcons: With veteran RB Michael Turner finally getting it going the last few games, we're seeing this team taking some strides offensively. However, second-year QB Matt Ryan is still not looking comfortable. The defensive line and secondary still are concerns.

Last Ranking: 12

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), DT (veteran depth), SLB (depth), WLB (depth)

9) Philadelphia Eagles: There is very little versatility to their offense and there are no signs of improvement in the running game. Not having veteran RB Brian Westbrook in the lineup the last few weeks is starting to show. The defense is good enough to at least keep the team in every game.

Last Ranking: 5

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), SLB (veteran depth), WLB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

10) Denver Broncos: Reality hit this team the last two weeks. Kyle Orton is a limited thrower and because of that, it makes their offense easier to defend. The lack of a running game doesn't help, either. The defense, however, is solid enough that they still will have a chance to win any game.

Last Ranking: 6

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), G (depth)

11) San Diego Chargers: Give defensive coordinator Ron Turner credit for the improvement on that side of the ball lately. He's found a way with his pressure schemes to break down the opponents passing game. Their passing game is one of the league's best, but the lack of a running game could still prevent this team from making the playoffs.

Last Ranking: 14

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), S (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

12) Arizona Cardinals: They finally have found a running game this season with the tandem of Tim Hightower and Chris Wells, so their offense isn't the problem. Finding a consistent pass rush and getting better play out of their secondary are essential factors if this team is going to make a playoff run again.

Last Ranking: 15

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (veteran depth), C (veteran depth), DE (depth), ILB (veteran depth), CB (depth)

13) Baltimore Ravens: It has become very apparent how lacking this team is at the receiver position. The fact that they were interested in acquiring veteran WR Terrell Owens at the trading deadline should tell you what they think of the talent they have at that position. Defensively, they just can't get any consistent pressure on the quarterback and there hasn't been much of a sign lately that improvement is on the way in that area.

Last Ranking: 9

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), ILB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

14) New York Giants: The injuries in the secondary have really taken a toll on their defense. The lack of consistent pressure from the front-four is also a big concern. Offensively, they have to find a way to run the ball better.

Last Ranking: 10

Needs Still to be Filled: RT (veteran depth), S (veteran depth)

15) Houston Texans: The loss of starting TE Owen Daniels showed last week against a banged up Colt defense. An improvement in their running game would help alleviate that issue. The defense has made strides this season, but they still need to find pass rush help opposite Mario Williams and they could use some improvement in the back end.

Last Ranking: 13

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (depth), TE (pass catching depth), DE (veteran depth)

16) New York Jets: Head coach Rex Ryan's defense has really struggled to find consistency in the front-seven after a really solid start. Ryan needs to find a way to get more pressure on the quarterback. Speaking of that position, rookie Mark Sanchez needs to be more accurate if they want to have a good chance to win each week. He has solid starting talent at tight end and wide receiver, so they have good options for him to work with.

Last Ranking: 16

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (slot), G (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), DT (depth), DE (depth), OLB (veteran depth)

17) Miami Dolphins: Give them credit for being as competitive as they have been despite a lack of quality personnel at certain positions on offense. The defense needs to get more pressure on the quarterback in order to get more turnovers. Starting two rookie cornerbacks is going to be an issue going forward.

Last Ranking: 18

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

18) Green Bay Packers: What has happened to this defense in recent weeks? Is it a lack of personnel? The offensive line problems are a big issues as well going forward, but Aaron Rodgers is holding on to the ball too long and is taking too many sacks.

Last Ranking: 17

Needs Still to be Filled: QB (veteran depth), G (depth), DE (veteran depth), OLB (pass rushing depth), S (veteran depth)

19) Chicago Bears: The lack of a running game is alarming. If they could run it better, that could keep their struggling defense off the field for longer periods of time in each game.

Last Ranking: 19

Needs Still to be Filled: QB (veteran depth), RB (veteran depth upgrade), G (depth), MLB (depth), SLB (depth), WLB (depth)

20) San Francisco 49ers: They are running the ball better of late, but QB Alex Smith has to be more consistent with his accuracy. The defense just doesn't make enough plays each week in order to give this team a better chance to win. They need some upgrades at various positions on that side of the ball.

Last Ranking: 20

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), RT (veteran depth), OLB (pass rushing depth)

21) Carolina Panthers: Give defensive coordinator Ron Meeks credit for being more aggressive in recent weeks. DE Julius Peppers is finally found some consistency, but losing starting WLB Thomas Davis is going to be an issue going forward. He was having the best season of his five-year career.

Last Ranking: 21

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), G (veteran depth), WLB (veteran depth), CB (nickel/depth)

22) Jacksonville Jaguars: This offense needs to be more consistent, but the talent is there for them to put up over 20 points each game. The defensive personnel doesn't really fit the 3-4 scheme they're using this season. Some tough decisions will have to be made for next season on that side of the ball.

Last Ranking: 23

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), DE (depth), DT (veteran depth), OLB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

23) Buffalo Bills: The injuries on defense are a major concern as is the depth on that side of the ball. Still, give the coaching staff credit for having this team ready to play. Despite the injuries on both sides of the ball, this team has been competitive most weeks.

Last Ranking: 22

Needs Still to be Filled: TE (veteran depth), G (depth), WLB (veteran depth), MLB (veteran depth)

24) Tennessee Titans: It's amazing how getting back veteran CB Cortland Finnegan back in the lineup has been such a major boost for their defense. We're starting to see how special of a running back Chris Johnson is. No back is more dangerous than him in space.

Last Ranking: 25

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), LT (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth), WLB (veteran depth), MLB (veteran depth), SLB (veteran depth)

25) Seattle Seahawks: The offensive line is in shambles and they'll have to find a way to get some continuity. The defense isn't playing up to the talent level that's on that side of the ball.

Last Ranking: 24

Needs Still to be Filled: RB (veteran depth), OT (depth), G (depth)

26) St. Louis Rams: RB Steven Jackson is really the saving grace for their offense. Had WR Laurent Robinson not been lost early on with a season-ending injury, the offense might have been decent. Look for the defense to go through a major overhaul next season at several positions.

Last Ranking: 26

Needs Still to be Filled: OT (veteran depth), DT (veteran depth), OLB (veteran depth), MLB (veteran depth), CB (veteran depth)

27) Detroit Lions: Their offensive line is a big problem going forward. They'll have to make some changes up front next season if QB Matthew Stafford is going to make big strides. Defensively, there also needs to be a major talent upgrade at several positions.

Last Ranking: 27

Needs Still to be Filled: DE (veteran depth), DT (veteran depth), DE (veteran depth), OLB (veteran depth)

28) Kansas City Chiefs: It will be interesting to see how their offense does without veteran RB Larry Johnson for the rest of the way. It's amazing how veteran WR Chris Chambers comes in and starts in just one week. They may have found a real gem in WR Lance Long. Defensively, they need a major overhaul in talent.

Last Ranking: 28

Needs Still to be Filled: LT (depth), G (depth), DE (depth), OLB (pass rushing depth), CB (veteran depth), S (depth)

29) Oakland Raiders: Getting WR Chaz Schilens should help their anemic offense. However, JaMarcus Russell remains one of the NFL's most inaccurate passers despite having some decent young receivers to throw to. The defense needs upgrades in the front seven and at safety.

Last Ranking: 29

Needs Still to be Filled: G (depth), DT (depth), MLB (depth)

30) Washington Redskins: The good thing is their defense defense is good enough to keep the scores low. However, they can't move the ball consistently well enough on offense to have a decent chance to win any game. The lack of a running game is also a big issue on offense.

Last Ranking: 30

Needs Still to be Filled: G (veteran depth), RT (veteran depth),  DE (pass rushing depth), OLB (depth), S (depth)

31) Tampa Bay Buccaneers: Give them credit for putting together as good as a performance as they're capable of last week with the limited talent they have on both sides of the ball.

Last Ranking: 32

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (veteran depth), G (depth), C (depth), LT (depth), RT (depth), DT (veteran depth), CB (depth/nickel), S (depth)

32) Cleveland Browns: The quarterback switch came a few weeks too late for this team to have any chance to be competitive.

Last Ranking: 31

Needs Still to be Filled: WR (depth-speed), LT (depth), RT (depth), ILB (veteran depth), OLB (pass rusher), CB (veteran depth)
