Strengths: Allen is a versatile, hardworking defender who possesses a solid overall game. He has great size, speed and is a leader on defense. He reads the quarterback well, understands his assignments and is able to locate the ball quickly. He has a burst of speed, possesses sideline-to-sideline range and works well with others in the secondary; he has the ability to cover in one-on-one situations. He’s an effective tackler and takes good angles in run defense. He’s a complete safety who takes pride in his craft.

Weaknesses: He takes chances in coverage and will get caught out of position. He has to improve his backpedal and transition better with receivers. He has inconsistent hands when attempting to record an interception.

Steuber Says: There’s a lot to like about Allen. He’s the complete package that has just a few minor flaws that can be corrected. He’s an outstanding leader and brings great intensity on the field every week. Allen finished the 2009 season with 85 tackles and four interceptions. The 2010 safety class is very deep, and in most years, Allen would be considered a first round talent, but it’s likely that he will fall into the second round.
