Strengths: Johnson is a tough, durable lineman with the versatility to be used at several positions on the offensive line. He’s quick off the snap, stays square and does a nice job locking up defenders. He keeps his feet moving throughout the play, anchors in pass protection and displays his strength at the point of attack. He’s solid as a run blocker and seals lanes for ball carriers. He plays with a nasty streak and is always working to hit a defender. He uses his hands well and makes good use of blocking angles.
Weaknesses: He’s not a natural athlete and has to improve his footwork. He’s not effective in motion and doesn’t adjust well on the second level. He has to improve the strength of his base and struggles as a drive blocker.Steuber Says: Johnson showcased his durability during his career and played in a school record 54 games. He never missed a game and has played multiple positions on the offensive line. His versatility is attractive to teams, even if he’s not the best athlete or strongest lineman. Johnson doesn’t compare with the upside of Iupati or Ducasse, but he’s reliable and a solid third – fourth round pick.
