Strengths: Suh is an explosive interior lineman who plays with a relentless motor and dominates in the trenches. He's quick off the snap, uses his hands to his advantage, possesses a wide-array of moves and is able to bull rush opponents off the line. He has a rare combination of athleticism and strength, and, in addition to his ability to disrupt at the line of scrimmage and in the backfield, he's able to shed blocks cleanly in pursuit of a ballcarrier. He moves well laterally, redirects to the action and is rarely off his feet. He's extremely versatile and can play inside or outside depending on the defensive structure (3-4 or 4-3) of an NFL team.
Weaknesses: He's a player that has very few weaknesses, but he tends to read the action rather than react and occasionally can be handled in the trenches.Steuber Says: A two-year starter at Nebraska, Suh has dominated the competition since entering the starting lineup; generating 161 tackles, 43 for a loss and 19.5 sacks during that time. This past year, Suh distinguished himself as the nation's premier talent as he recorded 84 tackles, 24 for a loss and 12 sacks. The debate leading up to the draft will be if the St. Louis Rams should select Suh with the No. 1 overall selection or select one of the top-two quarterbacks, Sam Bradford or Jimmy Clausen. Not since 1994 has a defensive tackle been taken with the No. 1 overall pick when the Cincinnati Bengals drafted Dan Wilkinson. Drafting a defensive tackle with the No. 1 pick is risky, because you're investing a lot of money into a position that doesn't receive a lot of recognition, generally helps others around him and doesn't make an impact on every play, and there's no standard of expectations for that position to produce with that high of a selection. Suh is worthy of being the top pick in the draft, but for a team like the Rams to draft him, they need to address their quarterback situation prior to April 22nd (draft day). It doesn't matter if the Rams or another team selects Suh; he's going to be a great player at the next level. But whenever you hear phrases like, "Can't miss" or "So dominant," be cautious, because nothing in the draft or in football is a sure thing; not even Suh.
