Updated NFL Calendar

Here's an updated look at the 2010 NFL calendar up to the start of the regular season.


2/8: Waiver system begins for 2010. Players with at least four previous pension-credited seasons whom clubs desire to terminate are not subject to the waiver system until after the trading deadline in October.

2/11: Teams can start to designate transition/franchise players.

2/24: NFL Combine begins.

2/25: Deadline for designation of transition/franchise players.


3/2: NFL Combine ends.

3/4: Deadline for teams to exercise options for 2010 on all players who have option clauses in their 2009 contracts.

3/4: Expiration date of all player contracts due to expire after 2009 season.

3/4: Deadline for clubs to submit qualifying offers to restricted free agents whose contracts are expiring.

3/4: Deadline for clubs to submit minimum salary offers to exclusive rights free agents (players with less than three years of free agency credit).

3/5: New league year/free agency/trading period begins.

3/15: Teams may begin voluntary off-season workouts.

3/21-3/24: Annual NFL owners meeting in Orlando, Fla.


4/15: Deadline for signing and submission of offer sheets by restricted free agents.

4/21: Deadline for old team to match offer sheets submitted by restricted free agents.

4/22-4/24: NFL Draft in New York.


5/24-5/26: NFL Spring Meeting, Dallas, Texas.


6/1: Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned unrestricted free agents to receive exclusive negotiating rights for rest of season if player is not signed by another club by July 22.

6/1: Deadline for old clubs to send tender to unsigned restricted free agents or to extend qualifying offer to retain exclusive negotiating rights.

6/15: Deadline for old clubs to withdraw original qualifying offer to unsigned restricted free agents and still retain exclusive negotiating rights by substituting tender of 110 percent of previous year's salary.

6/27-6/30: NFL Rookie Symposium, Carlsbad, California.


Training Camps open in mid-to-late July

7/22: Signing period ends at 4:00 PM ET for unrestricted free agents who received June 1 tender.


8/8: Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, Canton, Ohio.

8/12-8/16: — First preseason weekend.

8/31: Roster cutdown to maximum of 75 players.


9/4: Roster cutdown to maximum of 53 players.

9/9: 2010 NFL Kickoff in New Orleans.
