Pre-Draft Team Needs: New York Giants

The Giants don't have any glaring needs as we get closer to the draft, but could improve their depth at a few positions.

Players Added

Jim Sorgi/QB - Sorgi will take over the No. 2 job with Carr moving on to San Francisco.

Antrel Rolle/S - He'll take over the starting position at free safety for his new team. Rolle has made the successful move from cornerback to safety over the past few seasons.

Deon Grant/S - The veteran defensive back is capable of playing either safety position. The durable Grant gives the team tremendous insurance should he be needed to start.

Players Lost

David Carr/QB - He kind of revived his slumping career the past two seasons with the Giants. If Alex Smith struggles, Carr could push him for the starting job with the San Francisco 49ers.

Darcy Johnson/TE - The backup tight end wasn't tendered as a restricted free agent, so he was free to sign anywhere with the Giants being unable to match any offer he received. Johnson has a chance at much more playing time with the Rams based on their current depth chart at the position.

Fred Robbins/DT - The veteran interior defensive lineman signed with the St. Louis Rams. Jay Alford, Rocky Bernard, and Chris Canty will all vie for playing time in Robbins' spot.

Antonio Pierce/LB - He was cut prior to the start of free agency. The team may have to use a MLB by committee to replace him. Pierce (neck) said recently he was close to being cleared to play. It's questionable whether he'll be able to find a starting job elsewhere.

Danny Clark/LB - The versatile veteran linebacker would likely have to be a backup if he eventually returns to the team.

Kevin Dockery/CB - Dockery was not tendered as a restricted free agent, so that left him free to sign with any team. It was a small surprise that he wasn't tendered.

C.C. Brown/S - Once they signed Rolle, the team rescinded their RFA tender offer to Brown, thus making him an unrestricted free agent.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Guard - Starting RG Rich Seubert is 31 and it's probably time for the team to start looking at his eventual replacement. The team is also a little thin on depth at guard.
