Pre-Draft Team Needs: Houston Texans

The Texans really showed good improvement on the defensive side of the ball last season. However, the secondary has a huge hole at cornerback.

Players Added

Wade Smith/OL - The versatile offensive lineman is capable of playing four positions, but figures to compete for playing time at guard or center.

Neil Rackers/K - He'll compete for the kicking job against fellow veteran Kris Brown.

Players Lost

Rex Grossman/QB - Dan Orlovsky is the default backup now for starter Matt Schaub.

Chris Brown/RB - He fits in as a second back at this point of his career.

Chester Pitts/G - It's too bad that he suffered such a serious knee injury while he played on the final year of his contract. Pitts isn't a lock to find a starting job this season.

Tutan Reyes/G - The journeyman interior lineman fits in as a fourth guard at this point in his career.

Ephraim Salaam/OT - The veteran tackle can back up on either side of the offensive line.

Jeff Zgonina/DT - He turns 40 next month, but Zgonina hasn't indicated if he's going to retire or if he plans to keep playing.

Chaun Thompson/LB - Thompson was limited to three games last season because of injury.

Khary Campbell/LB - He only saw time on special teams for the Texans last season.

Dunta Robinson/CB - Filling his void won't be easy. It remains to be seen who is ready to start in Robinson's place. The team likely will address that position early in this year's draft.

Nick Ferguson/S - Ferguson should be able to find a backup job closer to the start of training camps in early August.

John Busing/S - He participated in just over 30 percent of the defensive snaps last season, but saw most of his playing time on special teams. Busing was not tendered as a restricted free agent.

Brian Russell/S - The journeyman defensive back only played in three games with the Texans last season.

Pre-Draft Team Needs

Cornerback - They must replace Robinson in the starting lineup. Robinson signed a big-money deal with the Atlanta Falcons.

Running Back - None of the five backs on their current 80-man roster is ready to handle a heavy workload.
