Post-Draft Review: New York Giants

The Giants had three pre-draft needs. They did a nice job of addressing each one. If the injured players from last year can return healthy, New York should challenge for the division lead.

Pre-Draft Needs: MLB, G, DE

Players Added

Round 1-Jason Pierre-Paul/DE - Pierre-Paul probably had the most upside of any defensive end available for this year's draft. He's a bit raw, so the coaches can bring him along slowly, since the depth at defensive end is decent.

Round 2-Linval Joseph/DT - The coaches like using a rotation at defensive tackle, so Joseph could get in to the mix this season for 10-20 plays/game.

Round 3-Chad Jones/S - He'll give the team excellent depth at SS. Jones also gives the team insurance should Kenny Phillips struggle coming back from his serious knee injury.

Round 4-Phillip Dillard/LB - Dillard was drafted with the belief that he'll eventually get a chance to compete for the MLB job. That position could be a committee this season.

Round 5-Mitch Petrus/G - Some thought he should have been selected higher. Petrus could be seen by the team as the eventual successor to starting LG Rich Seubert.

Round 6-Adrian Tracy/LB - He played DE in college, but figures to transition to SLB, where the team lacks depth at that position.

Round 7-Matt Dodge/P - With veteran P Jeff Feagles facing an uncertain future, Dodge was drafted to be his potential replacement.

Post-Draft Needs

None.
