Post-Draft Review: Green Bay Packers

The Packers entered this year's NFL Draft with three needs. Coming out of the draft, they still had a few needs to fill.

Pre-Draft Needs: OLT, CB, OLB

Players Added

Round 1-Bryan Bulaga/OT - The offensive tackle will get a chance to eventually supplant starting LT Chad Clifton. While he's capable of playing on the right side, Bulaga is needed more at left tackle for the future.

Round 2-Mike Neal/DE- This position really wasn't a need, but Neal will add to their depth, which could have been a pre-draft need.

Round 3-Morgan Burnett/S - Here's another position which wasn't a need, but Morgan will help upgrade their depth at the position. Morgan's addition could mean the team is looking for a younger player to eventually challenge Atari Bigby for the strong safety job.

Round 5-Andrew Quarless/TE - Tight end wasn't a need at all, so it's hard to see where Quarless fits in. However, after deeper inspection, Green Bay could use a blocking tight end. Quarless is willing blocker and could help Green Bay in their two tight end package.

Round 5-Marshall Newhouse/G - He played left tackle in college, but projects to play guard at the NFL level. Guard is a position that could use an upgrade and some more depth. Newhouse, once he develops, could challenge for a starting job down the line.

Round 6-James Starks/RB - Running back wasn't a need, but Starks is a good value here. The power back missed all of his 2009 at the University at Buffalo, but a decent NFL Combine workout plus solid private workouts gave him a chance to get drafted.

Round 7-C.J. Wilson/DE - Wilson needs to get stronger if he's to make their roster coming out of the preseason.

Post-Draft Needs

Cornerback - Cornerback was thought to be a weakness in this year's draft after the top five to six players at that position. Green Bay, like many teams, didn't have a cornerback rated highly after the first 50 selections, so they didn't wind up addressing the position. However, it remains a big need. Starter Al Harris turns 36 in December and is coming off of a major knee injury. It remains to be seen if they have his eventual replacement on the roster.

Outside Linebacker - Brad Jones was a nice surprise last season for Green Bay, but he still has a lot to prove as a pass rusher. They really could use one to two more outside pass rushers.
