Name: Kerry Carter School: Stanford Year: 4Sr
Ht: 6-2 Wt: 234 40: 4.63 Pos: RB
Bio: Stanford's leading rusher two of the past three seasons. Carried the ball 149 times for 524 yards with 2 scores as a senior, catching 8 passes for 36 yards in 10 games. Junior totals were 123/456/9 on the ground with 11/158/1 as a receiver after a separated shoulder kept him on the sidelines during the last four games of the season. Posted career numbers as a true sophomore totaling 179/729/6 as a ball carrier and catching 4 passes. Ran well at the combine.
Pos: King sized tailback who runs with both power and vision. Sees the field, works to avoid piles and displays adequate skills running outside tackle. Finds the running lanes, keeps his feet driving up the field and a powerful ball carrier who breaks the first tackle and picks up major yardage off initial contact. Some elusiveness to his running and weaves his way through the traffic, waiting for his blocks to develop, then following them. Competent receiver out of the backfield.
Neg: Runs with an upright style which leads to a lot of punishing hits and an inability to finish his runs. Lacks a burst through the hole, overall quickness as well as speed. Gives half hearted efforts blocking. Even though a big, powerful runner, durability has been a problem.
Analysis: After a single outstanding season as a sophomore, never took his game to the next level much of the reason because of injuries. Could be a solid short yardage runner or change of pace type back at the next level, but a lack of speed and running form could leave him undrafted.
