Texas A&M defensive back Toney Hurd Jr. worked out for the Houston Texans today in the team’s local workout. The Texans are allowed to bring in local NFL draft prospects from the Houston area that do not count against their 30 pre draft visits.
Hurd Jr. spent four years in College Station and was one of their top defensive backs for the past two seasons. Starting 6 games in 2013 (appeared in 12), the team captain had 57 total tackles with 2 quarterback sacks and 1 interception. His best season came as a junior when he logged 67 total tackles, which was a career high, and 1 interception.
He has the ability to play both corner back and safety and at 5-9 185 lbs. the defensive back would have to make his mark on special teams if he makes it into a NFL camp.
Hurd Jr. is from Missouri City, Texas and attend Fort Bend Marshall High School.
