Texans News Coming Out of Day Three of Camp

Day three came and went and the Houston Texans wrapped up their first day of pads on a pretty reasonable day of weather for camp. There were some story lines that took control of the day and we look at a few coming out of Monday.

Arian Foster Sitting Out

Houston Texans running back Arian Foster sat out of Monday’s work with a hamstring issue, but it didn’t seem too much of a big deal to Bill O’Brien.

“He’s dealing with something. He’ll be fine. He’ll be back. It’s a minor deal. You know, it’s a long season. He’ll be out there.”

The situation does not look serious, but it will be something to monitor as the first preseason game approaches.

Andre Johnson Tweaks His Hamstring

Andre Johnson was shut down for the day after “tweaking” his hamstring after catching a pass, but it was a precautionary measure being early in training camp,

“I just got a little tight, it was just a precaution. We’re going to go in and see what’s what. Just from the feeling of it, it’s not anything bad.”, and Johnson added, “I’m not worried about it.”

Johnathan Joseph Progressing

Cornerback Johnathan Joseph who is coming off of foot surgery has been eased back into work on the field, but took a pretty good work load today at camp.

“I think I’m moving in the right direction. Today is the first day in pads so I had another chance to come out here and get a little more physical. I just think any day I’m out here running around, moving better than I did the day before, I think is a great direction and a great sign.”

Joseph continued on how his foot was holding up, “It’s holding up really good. I’m doing everything I need to do in the training room to stay on top of my body and make sure when I come out here to the practice field that I’m able to go through a full practice.”

Fitzpatrick and Johnson Getting Acquainted

There was question on how quick Andre Johnson was going to get used to his new quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick. One thing is for sure that the two have opened their lines of communication to get things together as quick as they can.

Johnson talked about the communication with Fitzpatrick, “Me and him have been doing a lot of communicating since I’ve been here. In this offense, the quarterback and receiver definitely have to be on the same page, so me and him are talking all of the time, just things about the offense.”

Fitzpatrick seems to have taken the leadership role and he is taking every chance to talk to Johnson, the Pro Bowl receiver likes his new quarterbacks mentality, “If there is something he is thinking about, he is going to pull you to the side and tell you about it. Even if you may know the answer to it, if it’s on his mind, he’s going to pull you to the side and tell you about it. I like that about him.”

Fitzpatrick talked about his budding relationship with Johnson, ““I mean he’s a great guy to come to work with every day. The way that he (Andre Johnson) prepares and gets himself ready; very, very intelligent guy. “

The quarterback also has taken notice of Johnson’s work ethic since he arrived to camp. “I’m really looking forward to playing with him this year just because of the way that he works and the way that he has put in the time the first few days to learn and understand everything.”

A Couple Players Catch Chris Myers’ Attention

Veteran center Chris Myers took some quick time out after practice to talk to the media and he pointed out two players who have caught his eye these past three days,

“There is a couple of guys who turn your head every now and then. (Travis) Labhart, the rookie receiver from (Texas) A&M, he reminds me of a (Wes) Welker type of player, one of those type of guys. A Danny Amendola kinda player crossing the middle. Then Xavier Su’a-Filo, one of the rookie offensive line, he is tremendously strong with great leverage.”
