Texans Training Camp: Day Thirteen

Some news and notes from day thirteen of Texans training camp

-It was the first training camp practice where it looked like the Texans were physically spent. Call it camp legs but the entire group appeared to have hit the wall after the constant grind they have had since camp opened on July 26th.

-Newly added running backs Ronnie Brown and William Powell were dressed and ready to go. Brown will wear #22 while Powell was dressed in #33.

-Ronnie Brown was not held back on his first day of camp with the Texans and was already working with the first offensive group. He looks in great physical shape, but his football shape and what he has left in the tank is the real question. If anything, the Texans look like they are doing everything to get Brown ready for the second preseason game.

-Rookie nose tackle Louis Nix III returned to camp today after having offseason knee surgery to make sure he was able to make it through the season. He was limited today with his work with the defense, but he is back after passing his conditioning test.

-Rookie fullback Jay Prosch returned to practice and this is after a hand injury that the Texans have kept pretty quiet. Prosch’s hand is wrapped up in a massive cast but that did not stop him from getting the work he needed at fullback. He was very physical with linebackers today in goal line situations.

-Two names took a big step within the Texans and that was Xavier Su’a-Filo and A.J. Bouye who will both be pushing for bigger roles with the team. Su’a-Filo looks to unseat Alex Kupper at left guard heading into the second preseason game and Bouye is looking to take the third cornerback role over Brandon Harris. It looks like both have firm grips on having this accomplished for the second preseason opener.

-A hot start for Uzoma Nwachukwu seems to have cooled a bit when he dropped two long passes that hit him right in the hands. He blew by the defensive backs and well behind the defense but, despite two well placed footballs that hit his hands, he could not complete the receptions.
