The Houston Texans activated rookie draft pick Louis Nix III today from the Active/Physically Unable to Perform list after he passed his conditioning test. It was the first time Nix took the practice field since the end of mandatory mini-camp in mid June. Head Coach Bill O’Brien talked about the return of his rookie nose tackle to camp,
“It’s really trying to ease him back into things because he’s been out for a while. It’s a matter of getting him back in football shape, getting him some
work in pads and not throwing him right back in there for 50 reps in a practice. We’ll just continue to work him back in.”
Nix had arthroscopic knee surgery before training camp opened to clean up his knee to get him through the season. Nix missed the final three games at Notre Dame after tearing his meniscus, which required surgery to get him ready for the NFL draft process.
Nix was drafted by the Texans in the 3rd round with the 83rd overall selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.
