To get to the league mandated 75 players on a NFL roster, the Houston Texans placed 7th round draft pick Lonnie Ballentine on the injured reserve. The safety injured his hamstring early in training camp and could not get healthy enough to practice or play in any of the three preseason games.
Ballentine was tabbed as Mr. Irrelevant after being the last selection of the 2014 NFL draft at 256th overall. The 6-3 and 215 lbs. safety had all
the physical skills needed to sustain a career in the NFL with his sub 4.4 second 40 times and 38 inch vertical jump. Considered a raw safety prospect
coming out of Memphis, Ballentine will be placed on the injured reserve ultimately ending his 2014 season.
With the move, the Texans are now at 78 current players on the roster and need three more moves before 3 p.m. central on Tuesday.
