The Houston Texans continue to do their due diligence scouting players at the Senior Bowl and have met with Louisiana Tech defensive lineman Vernon Butler. At 6’3" and 300 lbs., Butler totaled 170 total tackles (87 solo, 83 assisted) and 29.5 tackles for loss in 49 games for the Bulldogs.
In 2015, Butler garnered First Team All-Conference USA honors in his senior season, racking up 50 total tackles, with 10 tackles for loss, and three sacks.
Butler played both the three and five technique positions on the defensive line, making him a fit for the Texans 3-4 defensive scheme. He also chipped in at the nose tackle position at Louisiana Tech on passing downs, which makes him a versatile player up front.
