The Houston Texans met with Baylor’s Shawn Oakman at the Reese’s Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama. Oakman was selected as an All-American in 2014 and All-Big 12 from 2013-2015. At 6’7" and 269 pounds, there are questions on where Oakman would would fit into an NFL defense. Hen appears best suited as an edge player and given that the Texans are always looking for athletic pass rushers, Oakman could be a possibility.
Oakman had a breakout junior season, accumulating 11 sacks with 51 total tackles and 19.5 tackles for loss. During his senior season at Baylor, Oakman had 43 total tackles with 4.5 sacks and 14.5 tackles for loss.
There are ties between Oakman and head coach Bill O’Brien from Penn State which could provide some insight into the Texans interest in the Baylor defensive standout. Oakman will be looked at more closely as the draft process continues through Baylor’s Pro Day and the NFL Combine.
