State of the Texans Roundup: Free Agents Arrive to Houston and Justin Tuggle Signed By the Browns

The Houston Texans welcomed their new free agents to Houston and news on free agents in waiting.

Restricted free agent A.J. Bouye was given a low qualifying offer by the Texans, allowing him to test the market. Bouye has teams wanting to offer him a deal but finding the right spot for is key for him. Expect the Texans to be put on the spot to potentially match an offer sheet for Bouye in the coming week.

The Texans decided not to make qualifying offers to restricted free agents Darryl Morris and Justin Tuggle. This makes them unrestricted free agents. It did not take long for Tuggle to get signed by the Cleveland Browns organization. Also, defensive end Jared Crick is weighing opportunities with other teams and it looks like his time with the Texans is also coming to an end. Houston Texans introduced the entire 2016 free agents signing from day one at NRG Stadium. Jeff Allen, Tony Bergstrom, and Lamar Miller all appear to beinstant starters for the Texans offense. Bergstrom will have to win his staring spot at center, but will get the first crack at the position and it will mark the third starting center in as many years.

Lamar Miller made it clear why he came to Houston: to be the featured back of the offense. Miller was pinpointed by the Miami Dolphins to be nothing more than a rotational running back in their offense. Miller wants more and the opportunity with the Texans gives him that chance.

Brock Osweiler has rejuvenated a franchise looking for a direction and the team feels they have found it with the former Broncos signal caller. What we do know is that this was a joint decision between Rick Smith and Bill O’Brien to add Osweiler to the Texans if he became available. They were surprised that he did, but that is all it took. Smith was not letting up until Osweiler was in a Texans uniform. Word is that O’Brien like Osweiler’s makeup as a quarterback starting with the toughness displayed in the pocket. According to sources close to the situation, O’Brien also appreciated how tough he was because it takes a good quarterback to take hits and still deliver passes.

Brock Osweiler is already reaching out to teammates.
