The Houston Texans Add Safety Antonio Allen

The Houston Texans have added to their safety depth by signing free agent safety Antonio Allen.

The Houston Texans have reached an agreement with free agent safety, Antonio Allen. Allen was drafted by the New York Jets in 2012 in the seventh round and has played in 38 games for the Jets, starting 17 of those. In 2015, Allen was waived, then placed on season-ending injured reserve after tearing his achilles tendon.

A three-year starter coming out of South Carolina, Allen was a versatile playmaker for the Gamecocks, suiting up at linebacker his first two seasons then moving to the safety position. With the Jets, Allen played both at safety and cornerback, tallying 118 tackles, 13 passes defensed, 2 touchdowns (including one on a blocked punt), and 2.5 sacks during his four seasons in the NFL.
