According to ESPN's Tania Ganguli, the Houston Texans will host Wisconsin fullback Derek Watt. This is one of the thirty pre-draft visits the Houston Texans are allowed by the NFL. The Texans are hosting the Pewaukee native this week trying to find out more information regarding on what Watt could possibly bring to the team.
At Wisconsin, Watt was a three-time Academic All-Big Ten selection as was selected as Wisconsin’s Rookie of the Year in 2012. In 2015, Watt carried the ball 9 times for 45 yards and caught 15 passes for 139 yards as the team’s starting fullback. Watt missed a portion of the 2014 with a broken foot. At the end of the season, Watt was invited to participate in the 2016 East-West Shrine Game.
At 6’2” and 236 lbs., Watt ran a 4.77 40-yard dash at the Wisconsin pro day and checked in with a 33 1/2 inch vertical, 19 reps on the bench press and a 4.32 second short shuttle.
Watt has some versatility playing the traditional fullback position and lining up as an H-Back helping at the tight end position. That alone will give teams options on where Watt can line up offensively.
