It did not take long for Notre Dame center, Nick Martin, to realize who was trading up for him in the second round when he looked down at his phone.
“I saw that Houston, Texas area code, and I just was very excited, very excited,” said Martin in his post-draft conference call.
Martin arrives to the Texans with a solid pedigree of being a full time starter at center for the Irish and spending some time at guard his final season. Martin's brother, Zack, is the starting center for the Dallas Cowboys, has been an influential on his career as a player and the player he looked up to most as a player.
“He’s the person I look up to. He's the first person I go to when I have advice and he looked at me and said pretty much we’ll be neighbors now in Texas.”
Martin knows the situation in Houston with no real starter at center and he knows exactly why the Texans moved up to land him.
“I knew of that trade and obviously I’m going to work very hard, too when I get down there,” said Martin.
The Texans continue to try and infuse youth and potential into an offense that needed it. Martin could not be happier to be drafted and the newest Texans addition.
“It feels great. I mean, I couldn’t be happier about it.”
