The Houston Texans selected Clemson defensive tackle D.J. Reader with their final pick of the 2016 NFL Draft with the 166th pick in 5th round. Reader who was a Senior Bowl Invite, was selected as insurance for the interior of the defensive line.
Reader appeared in 25 games for the Clemson Tigers and was a solid force in the middle of their defense. In 2015, Reader had 13 tackles, .5 sacks and 1.5 tackles for loss. For his career Reader had 72 total tackles with 9 tackles for loss and four sacks. Before the start of the 2015 season, Reader left the team due to the passing of his father and appeared nine games into the season. After being a key reserve his sophomore season, Reader is the a perfect fit for a nose tackle in the Texans defensive scheme.
With Vince Wilfork getting up in age, Reader arrives to Houston at the right time for the organization.
