The Texans wanted to bring in some competition to push Jay Prosch and that is what Soma Vainuku is here for. Vainuku was a jack of all trades at USC, both a lead blocker and special teams standout for the Trojans. He also did a little pass catching and Vainuku can turn it up in a hurry with his volatile play, but his special teams play should not be overlooked. A solid player in coverage, Vainuku had a knack for blocking punts.
It is hard to really tell what Vainuku has as a player with no pads as of yet, but that will change when training camp arrives. He will have to win his spot being a top notch run blocker and in pass pro as well.
If he can prove to be a better lead blocker and special teams player than Prosch, he has a chance.
