Entering his season season with the Texans, Vince Wilfork was brought to the roster to be the nose tackle for the near future and help be a veteran presence in a locker room going through change. Reunited with familiar faces, Wilfork’s value goes beyond the playing field. He started slow last season but by the end of the season, Wilfork was holding down the nose tackle spot and keeping linebackers clean to make plays.
Wilfork’s age should be a concern at some point, but he is an important piece for the Texans defense. The defense revolves around a strong defensive line, and Wilfork’s job on the field will not be glamorous but it is a necessity. He will also be needed to help out rookie D.J. Reader for a bigger role in the future and that is part of the reason the team likes Wilfork, he veteran leadership. The key for Wilfork is for him to come into camp and into the season in better shape.
