Already entering his third season with the Texans after being acquired from the Atlanta Falcons, Akeem Dent has been a valuable depth piece for the defense, filling in as a spot starter and a special teams player. He has had a few nagging injuries along the way but there is value in his veteran presence for the linebacker position group.
Competition has finally been brought onto the roster to square off with Dent in filling out the inside linebacker position. Dent has the advantage due to his experience but, with younger and cheaper options now on the team, it will be a best man wins situation during camp.
Dent has his name written on the 53-man roster in pencil. He will have to work to nail it down.
