Academics and some off-the-field issues led Ra'zahn Howard to leave Purdue and declare for the supplemental draft. Contacted by all 32 NFL teams, Howard showed up to this pro day not in the best shape and went undrafted. The Texans did not sit around and offered him a deal to come to Houston which ended up being enough for Howard to try his luck with the Texans. Howard has had weight issues and has gotten up to almost 350 pounds at one point, but he is now around 325 pounds. He is trying to get around the 310 pound mark for training camp.
The big issues is that Howard is going to have to hit the ground running when training camp opens. He is behind the 8-ball with knowing the scheme and getting accustomed to his surroundings with the Texans. Rookie life is already tough to adjust to, now Howard has plenty to cram in a short time to get ready for training camp.
With a crowded defensive line group, Howard is going to have to catch up in a hurry for coaches to take notice.
