The Houston Texans have placed the following players on the physically unable to perform list prior to the start of training camp this weekend.
Preseason PUP List
- Jeff Adams (Knee)
- Cleveland Wallace (Hamstring)
- Lonnie Ballentine (Knee)
- Duane Brown (Quad)
- J.J. Watt (Back)
What is the Preseason PUP?
A player who, as a result of football-related injuries, is unable to take part in training camp practices may be assigned to the preseason PUP list. Players can be moved off the PUP list to the active roster at any time, even after one practice. A player cannot be placed on the PUP list, however, once he has taken the field for a practice, even if only for a few minutes.
With the start of training camp set to start, the Texans did some roster moves to protect their players that are not ready to go for the season. Most notable are J.J. Watt who underwent back surgery this past week and Duane Brown who is recovering from a torn quad suffered in the week 17 finale.
Rookie cornerback Cleveland Wallace had hamstring surgery after tearing his hamstring in OTAs but it appears the Texans are set to keep him on the roster until he is healthy. Veteran tackle Jeff Adams is coming back from a patellar knee injury he suffered against the Tennessee Titans last season and Lonnie Ballentine is coming back from a torn MCL and PCL and a broken knee cap in a collision during a regular season game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Expect the Texans to take their time with the group to make sure their injuries are 100% healed before hitting the field this season.
