The Houston Texans Cut Cecil Shorts III

The Houston Texans decide to part ways with Cecil Shorts III heading to their 53-man roster.

Cecil Shorts III signed a 2-year, $6 million deal with the Houston Texans prior to the start of the 2015 season. Less than one year later, he was asked to take pay cut, which he accepted, prior to the start of training camp in 2016. Now, Shorts has been cut prior to the team setting the 53-man roster. appeared in 11 games, his lowest total since his rookie season, and caught 42 balls for 484 yards with two touchdowns. His production was slowed by multiple injuries in 2015, which led the Texans to invest in younger talent for the position during the 2016 NFL Draft.

As training camp progressed, it was clear Shorts was the odd man out as the younger players on the depth chart took to the offense and played a majority of the snaps during the preseason.
