The Houston Texans have re-signed running back Kenny Hilliard and placed him on the practice squad to fill the spot vacated by Akeem Hunt. Hilliard was a 7th round draft pick by the Texans out of LSU in the 2015 NFL Draft and spent his entire rookie season on the Texans practice squad. Hilliard spent all of this off season and preseason with the Texans, but was released prior to the start of the 2016 season.
This preseason, Hilliard rushed for 137 yards on 51 attempts but struggled to hold onto the football with two fumbles. He was in line to push for a roster spot but could not break through after the position group was set. Hilliard tried out for the Seattle Seahawks at one point during the season but has been without a team before the Texans came calling.
The addition of Hilliard points to recently signed Akeem Hunt to spend more time on the 53-man roster. The health of Lamar Miller, Alfred Blue, and Jonathan Grimes now becomes the focus with the six running backs now under contract.
