It has been a tough road for Brian Cushing after two devastating knee injuries. Since his most recent return, Cushing has been productive on the field for the Houston Texans. On Sunday, by posting 6 total tackles, Cushing passed DeMeco Ryans for the franchise lead with 639 total tackles.
"It means a lot," said Cushing after the game on Sunday. "It took a lot of years and practices and games and injuries and coming back from injuries and just a lot of perseverance. It hasn't been pretty. A lot of ups and downs throughout my career, but to say I did that and say I accomplished that means the world to me."
Cushing missed a couple of games at the start of the season due to a knee injury and is currently playing with two fractures win his back. Cushing made some key stops against the Colts and the most important one came on T.Y. Hilton, leaving Hilton a yard short of the first down prior to the game-clinching play.
“I think you guys know how I feel about Brian,” said O’Brien. “I just think in this league, to be able to break a team record like that, the things that he’s had to overcome in his career, the injuries, to be able to come back and be as productive of a player and one of the top leaders of our team, says a lot about him. I think everything that he does for the city of Houston, on the field, off the field - great guy, definite captain for us.”
On the season, Cushing has 56 total tackles, 1 tackle for loss, and 2 quarterback hits.
