Texans Notebook: Romeo Crennel Going to Hang it Up?

Romeo Crennel ready to hang it up? Lamar Miller expected not to play vs. the Bengals and more.

Injury Update on Lamar Miller

Expect Lamar Miller to be held out and given an extra week to heal an ankle injury sustained late in the game against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Alfred Blue, Jonathan Grimes, and Akeem Hunt will help split carries today for the running game, which is overall not a bad thing for the Texans.

The Cincinnati Bengals are reportedly without Vontaze Burfict, A.J. Green, Tyler Eifert, Gio Bernard, and Clint Boling, plus Jeremy Hill is questionable. The Bengals are working to get younger players into the game with the playoffs out of reach.

Romeo Crennel Ready To Stop?

Defensive coordinator Romeo Crennel has been one of the Houston Texans the most valuable pieces in 2016 and his defense has responded despite multiple players having missing games. Crennel has been without J.J. Watt the majority of the season and had missed games from John Simon, Whitney Mercilus, Jadeveon Clowney, Kareem Jackson, Brian Cushing, and Johnathan Joseph.

Even with the amount of missed time by key players, Crennel has pushed all the right buttons. Crennel has a defense that ranks:

  • 1st in yards (306.5)
  • 2nd in passing yards (203.5)
  • 16th vs the run (103.0)
  • 8th in yards per play (5.2)
  • 12th in points  (21.0)

Is Crennel ready to slow down? He is not prepared to face that question.

Playoff Scenarios?

If the Tennessee Titans lose against the Jacksonville Jaguars at noon and the Houston Texans win tonight, the Texans will clinch the AFC South and a spot in the playoffs. If not, the Texans can also can beat the Titans in week 17 to clinch the AFC South and host a playoff game for the second season in a row.

Texans also have an outside chance at the #3 playoff spot, take a look.
