The Houston Texans Monitoring Obi Melifonwu at the Senior Bowl

The Houston Texans monitoring Obi Melifonwu at the Senior Bowl in Mobile, Alabama.

The Houston Texans continue to work to find prospects that can grow within the organization and with a need at safety they are trying to find answers. At the Senior Bowl, the Texans are keeping a close eye on Connecticut safety Obi Melifonwu who is currently playing for the North team.

Melifonwu checks in at 6-4 and 219 lbs. and in 2016 he totaled 118 tackles with 2.5 tackles for loss and 4 interceptions. Appearing in 48 games the past four seasons for the Huskies, Melifonwu had 351 total tackles, 16 pass deflections and 8 interceptions while starting 47 of those games.

With the Texans in need of athleticism at the safety position, Melifonwu fits the profile as a safety that could help for the future on the back end of the secondary.
