The Houston Texans Bring Back Shane Lechler

The Houston Texans re-sign punter Shane Lechler his 18th season in the NFL.

The Houston Texans have re-signed veteran punter Shane Lechler marking his 18th season in the NFL. Lechler will now enter his 5th season with the Texans after being signed as a free agent in 2013 from the Oakland Raiders.

Lechler had a bounce back season in 2016 averaging 47.5 yards a punt and a 40.1 net average on 72 punts. The 72 punts were lowest total since 2002 when he only punted 53 times. Lechler pinned 30 punts inside the 20 yard line this past season.

Lechler in 4 seasons with the Texans is averaging 47.2 yards a punt in 64 games.

Lechler’s long term goal is to kick 20 years in the NFL and is closing in on that entering year 18.
