Report: Quintin Demps to Sign with the Chicago Bears

The Houston Texans lose Quintin Demps to the Chicago Bears.

The Houston Texans have lost starting safety Quintin Demps to the Chicago Bears on a 3-year deal averaging $4.5 million for the season. The deal will be official when the new league year opens later on Thursday and will be finalized at 3-years, $13.5 million with $5 million coming the first year. Demps is set to turn 32 in June and has 41 starts in his career with 26 coming the past two seasons. Demps has experience in both the 3-4 and 4-3 defense in his career and lands his first multi year deal of his career.

Quintin Demps is soon to be a free agent when the new league year kicks off next month. Demps was one of the best defenders in the secondary for the top defense in the NFL with 55 total tackles, 6 interceptions, and 9 pass deflections.

Demps was signed to a one-year deal prior to the 2016 season and made $1.47 million on the agreement. The 31-year old Demps has signed five-consecutive one-year deals the past five seasons but he wants more in 2017.

Demps has been on record wanting a multi-year deal in the range of $4-5 million a season. He has expressed his interest in staying with the Texans but is not willing to give a hometown discount to the team he has been with the past two seasons and that appears to be the case.

The Texans recently drafted K.J. Dillon in the 2016 NFL Draft and moved Kareem Jackson to safety for the divisional round of the playoffs. The Texans have Andre Hal and have been looking to upgrade the spot for the past few off-seasons.
