Free Agency News: The San Francisco 49ers Sign Houston Texans safety Don Jones

The San Francisco 49ers sign safety Don Jones from the Houston Texans.

The Houston Texans lost another player off their 53-man roster in safety and special teams ace, Don Jones. Jones has signed a 2-year deal with the San Francisco 49ers marking the 4th Texan to exit this free agency period joining A.J. Bouye (Jacksonville), John Simon (Indianapolis) and Quintin Demps (Chicago).

Jones joined the Texans at the mid point of the season appearing in 9 games and in that time tied for the team lead in special teams tackles with 11 with Robert Nelson. Jones was solid late in the season help pin teams deep as a gunner on punt coverage making him a plus player for the Texans on special teams.

Jones is on his 5th team since 2013 but his play with the Texans warranted a new deal with the Texans or another team.
