Jadeveon Clowney's 5th Year Option Picked up by the Houston Texans

The Houston Texans pick up Jadeveon Clowney's 5th Year option for 2018.

The Houston Texans have exercised the 5th year option for outside linebacker Jadeveon Clowney, locking him up through the 2018 season. First round selections under the new collective bargaining agreement have a team option after their fourth season in the NFL. The option will be fully guaranteed when the new league year starts in 2018.

Clowney had his best season in a Texans uniform in 2016, positing 53 total tackles, 6 sacks, 17 quarterback hits, and 16 tackles for loss. In the playoffs, Clowney continued his ways with game changing plays, harassing Tom Brady in the divisional round and intercepting the football in the wild card round against the Oakland Raiders.

The former first overall selection from South Carolina has been plagued by injuries his first two seasons with the Texans. Overcoming these injuries in 2016, Clowney was selected as All-Pro and Pro Bowl selections for his strong season.
