Kyle Fuller's Versatility Is Exactly What the Houston Texans are Looking for

The Houston Texans value versatility and that is exactly what Kyle Fuller brings to the offensive line.

Late in the NFL Draft, the Houston Texans continued looking for depth players to come in to compete and potentially win a roster spot. That is exactly what the team envisions for center Kyle Fuller as their final selection of the 2017 NFL Draft.

Fuller arrives from Baylor University after starting three seasons for the the Bears, appearing in 52 games with 39 career starts. He lead the team in games played and career starts the past three seasons, making Fuller a mainstay on interior for the Bears.

“I really like the Fuller guy. He’s another guy that is a three-year starter at Baylor, has played a lot of football, graduated, has taken care of his business,” Rick Smith said. “Those are the types of guys that we like to add to the football team.”

With the Texans on the clock in round seven, Smith and head coach Bill O'Brien liked the complete body of work for Fuller, especially his experience and how the Texans see his versatility at not only center, but both guard spots.

“When we just sat there and talked about this one there were some really good candidates up there for us at various positions, but I think one thing that put us over the top with him in talking to Rick (Smith) was his versatility on the inside,” O’Brien said of Fuller. “His ability to come in and be able to compete for a backup job at the guard spot in addition to the center spot.”

Named the “Best Offensive Lineman” in the the state by Dave Campbell’s Texas Football, Fuller knows that coming to Houston is going to take him to evolve his game and learn multiple spots.

“They talked to me about center and guard for sure.” Fuller explained. “I’ve been training to do that. It’s just going to be a matter of getting in there, getting the reps that I need and doing what I have to do to get on the team (and) make sure that I get out there next year.”

With the likes of Greg Mancz and Nick Martin at the center spots, Fuller knows that he is going to have prove his worth at all three interior spots. His experience will come into play and now, when they hit the field, Fuller is going to have to hit the ground running to lock down a roster spot.

“I think I bring versatility, for sure. I’m a big, physical guy,” Fuller said of his game. “I’m a guy who likes to get out there and work every single day. Obviously I’m going to come in and I’m going to learn and I’m going to do what I need to do to get out there on the field.”
