Texans Fill Void for the Departed Brian Gaine
The Houston Texans will be adding the Indianapolis Colts Vice President of Football Operations to their front office. Jimmy Raye III will be replacing Brian Gaine who left the Texans to become the Buffalo Bills Vice President of Player Personnel. Raye III will become the Director of Player Personnel in Houston, holding the exact position that Gaine held with the Texans before leaving. The director of player personnel position consists of supervising all pro player evaluation, the advance scouting process, free agency, and monitoring player transactional movement in all professional leagues, plus other duties given to Raye.
Raye is entering his 22nd year in the NFL: 17 with the San Diego Chargers and 4 with the Indianapolis Colts. With the Colts, Raye worked closely with former the Colts general manager assisting with the roster, salary cap, and free agency process. Raye also contributed extensively with preparation for the NFL Draft, the NFL Combine, and prospect visits. Dating back to 2014, he has handled the college free agent process.
Some of Raye’s best work came with the Chargers when he served as the team’s director of college scouting (2000-2007). In that time period, the Chargers drafted the likes of Drew Brees, Eli Manning, LaDanian Tomlinson, Darren Sproles, Eric Weddle, Vincent Jackson, Nick Hardwick, Antonio Cromartie, Quintin Jammer, and the signing of Antonio Gates, to name few. The talent that was brought in with Raye serving in the position led to six winning seasons and five AFC West division titles
How Raye fits his experiences into the void left by the departure of Gaine is yet to be seen, but Raye has built an impressive resume over his 22-year stretch in the NFL.
Vince Wilfork in Limbo
Vince Wilfork has been making the media rounds discussing a new ad campaign he has with Kingsford but also he discussed that he is just taking it easy during the off-season. Wilfork mentions he has not retired or come to a decision if he will play in 2017 or not, after becoming an unrestricted free agent when his two-year deal with the Texans expired.
General Manager Rick Smith mentioned earlier in the off-season that he had not spoken to Wilfork and the team would move on with their roster. If Wilfork wants to play in 2017, there is no real indications it will be with the Texans but no one really knows at this point.
Wilfork also came out with this great commercial.
Aaron Rodgers on Deshaun Watson
Green Bay Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers took time to talk about new Texans rookie quarterback Deshaun Watson. Rodgers is taking part in the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greer, South Carolina which is not too far from Watson's old stomping grounds at Clemson.
Rodgers thoughts on the former Clemson signal caller.
