Texans Report Card - DT

BattleRedNation.com is going to look at the Texans, position by position, and give our final evaluation of what happened during the 2008 season. We're going to move to the defensive tackle position next.

Amobi Okoye - 24 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF

Travis Johnson - 28 tackles, 1 sack, 1 FF

DelJuan Robinson - 28 tackles, 1 FF

Jeff Zgonina - 19 tackles

Tim Bulman - 18 tackles, 4 sacks

Positives- Amobi Okoye has Pro Bowl type of talent, and if not for his high ankle injury that hampered him for much of the year, he could've possibly showed more of that potential. Johnson is a solid rotational player, as is Zgonina. Robinson surprised many this season in his first year of game action as he was better than average. Bulman has a high motor and he could fit in many different schemes.

Negatives- Okoye couldn't stay healthy and he had a disappointing season. Johnson is just a guy, despite having first-round draft pick status. Zgonina isn't going to get any better as he is north of 38 years old.

Overall- Houston has a ton of potential at the defensive tackle position, but not a ton of production. The team could benefit from a switch of defensive scheme and an infusion of youth at the position.

Solution- The Houston defense needs to be addressed, and Boston College's B.J. Raji may be on the board when the Texans select at pick #15. If he isn't, Houston will likely address the position somewhere in the first three rounds.
