Thursday Titans Practice Notes

Several things happened on Thursday, and her's what went on.

The Tennessee Titans completed their sixth training camp practice on Thursday and got a bit of a break as some cloud cover provided a brief respite from the heat and humidity that has mark practice so far.

MARIOTA STREAK CONTINUES

Practice number six is in the books for the Titans and quarterback Marcus Mariota still has not thrown an interception. He came close today however, as cornerback Perrish Cox broke on an out route intended for Harry Douglas. Cox got one hand on the pass but could not make what would have been an acrobatic catch along the sideline.

MARIOTA’S NUMBERS

During the two periods of team practice (11-on-11) Mariota was once again pretty good, though not as hot as we have seen him at times this camp. He completed 9 of 13 passes with one drop.

Of his nine completions 3 were between 0-5 yards, 5 between 5-10 yards and one of 15-20 yards.

COX STILL MAKING PRESENCE FELT

Cornerback Perrish Cox came into OTA’s making plays and he is still making them in training camp.

The free agent addition has solidified himself as the starting corner opposite Jason McCourty. He came close to interception Mariota for the first time in training camp during Thursdays team period and seems to make a play a day that stands out among all the reps in practice.

Justin Hunter STAND UP

The enigmatic receiver had perhaps his best practice of training camp on Thursday, making three outstanding, contested catches while not having a single drop of a catchable pass.

COBB COMING ALONG

After struggling earlier this week and encoring the wrath of his position coach Sylvester Croom, running back David Cobb had his best practice of the week on Thursday. Cobb looked crisp running the ball, catching out of the backfield and did well in the few chances he got in pass protection during the session.

DEFENSE< DEFENSE

While Mariota, Nicks and the offense have garnered most of the talk so far, the Titans defense has had their share of big plays including Blidi Wreh-Wilson intercepting Zach Mettenberger during Thursday’s practice. Wreh-Wilson has had his struggles so far, but has also made some plays and he joined in today with the interception.
