Four additions to the Tennessee Titans roster force the release of four others, including QB Zach Mettenberger

The Tennessee Titans announced the additions of four rookie undrafted free-agents who participated in the rookie mini-camp tryout over the weekend. To make room for those additions, the Titans released four players from the roster, including quarterback Zach Mettenberger.

There is one thing you can say for sure about Tennessee Titans general manager Jon Robinson, he's not afraid to make a move.

To that end, the Titans announced on Monday morning the additions of four new players to the roster, FB Sam Bergen (Rutgers), WR Ben Roberts (Montana), DE Mike Smith (Southern Miss.) and CB Bennett Okotcha (Texas – San Antonio). Each of the players took part in the team’s rookie mini-camp on a tryout basis.

To make room for these additions, the Titans released four other players including backup quarterback Zach Mettenberger, along with DE Iosia Iosia, TE Kevin Greene and WR Rashon Ceaser.

Mettenberger had been with the Titans for two seasons and had started 10 games during his tenure with the franchise. For his Titans career, Mettenberger was  208-of-345 for 2,347 yds, 12 TDs and 14 INTs.

The team was 0-10 in Mettenberger’s 10 starts under center, and the team struggled at times, including the season-ending loss to Indianapolis where Mettenberger was pulled in favor of third-team quarterback Alex Tanney.

The Titans added veteran quarterback Matt Cassel during free agency making the move with Mettenberger possible.

Cassell and Tanney will enter training camp as the backups to starter Marcus Mariota, though the team could opt to carry just two quarterbacks into the season.
