With the Titans apparently taking the slow but sure route many of the top wide receiver free agents are already off the market. With the likes of Bernard Berrian, Jerry Porter, Donte Stallworth, Isaac Bruce and Ernest Wilford already off the market, the Titans options are getting slim.
The Titans have had less than stellar results when they have signed free agent wide receivers with the likes of Carl Pickens and Yancey Thigpen among others. Although the Titans are closing the deal with tight end Alge Crumpler today, they appear left without the names most fans would have liked to have seen.
The Titans appear to be taking the wait and see approach in free agency so far with the exception of the Crumpler signing. The Titans might also be hoping that the young receivers that they already have on the roster will develop more quickly than they have so far.Vince Young needs help at receiver to improve the poor results that were shown during the past year. Hopefully with Chris Davis, Biren Ealy, Brandon Jones, Paul Williams and Roydell Williams the Titans will improve at the position.
The other option is to try solidifying the receiving corp. with the addition of a couple more high draft choices. The Titans could go after a receiver in any of the first three rounds of the draft and land a sound player at receiver. With players like Mario Manningham, Andre Caldwell, Early Doucet, Limas Sweed, James hardy and the local product Earl Bennett available in the first three rounds.
Even with the appearance that the needs aren't being addressed, you can be assured both Mike Reinfeldt and Jeff Fisher are well thought out on which direction the team is going.
