Harvin has migraine, Berrian limited

The Vikings have added receiver Hank Baskett, failed to acquire receiver Vincent Jackson and were without receiver Percy Harvin Wednesday.

Harvin missed practice Wednesday with another migraine headache and was listed on the injury report with a hip/illness.

The team got more bad injury news when Bernard Berrian was limited at Wednesday's practice with a knee injury, joining cornerback Cedric Griffin and linebacker Ben Leber as limited participants.

Rookie cornerback Chris Cook was a full participant in a Wednesday practice for the first time since meniscus surgery following the third preseason game and joined defensive tackle Jimmy Kennedy (knee), offensive tackle Bryant McKinnie (finger), center John Sullivan (calf) and QB Brett Favre (ankle) as full participants.

The Vikings' opponent on Sunday, the Detroit Lions, were missing wide receiver Nate Burleson (ankle), safety Louis Delmas (groin/biceps/calf), linebacker Zack Follett (concussion), guard Stephen Peterman (foot) and quarterback Matthew Stafford (shoulder) at Wednesday's practice.

Defensive end Cliff Avril (knee/finger), safety C.C. Brown (forearm) and linebacker DeAndre Levy (groin) were limited for Detroit.

Harvin missing, Baskett here

The Vikings were missing receiver Percy Harvin (hip) at the start of practice on Wednesday, but their newest receiver arrived right on time.

Hank Baskett walked onto the practice field as the Vikings were wrapping up the stretching portion of practice and heading into individual drills. He caught several passes with the receiving corps and started to work in with the offense.

The Vikings appear to have released TE Mickey Shuler to make room for Baskett, but we'll get confirmation of that after practice when head coach Brad Childress addresses the media.

Harvin re-aggravated his hip injury in Sunday's game against the Dolphins. Childress said there was no structural damage, but it remains to be seen how much he practices this week, if at all.

For those wondering, there was no Vincent Jackson at practice.

Jackson saga continues

With less than five hours to consummate a trade between the Vikings and Chargers that would allow wide receiver Vincent Jackson to play for Minnesota after sitting out the first four games of the season, there is plenty of chatter about trade talks shutting down.

Over the last 24 hours, national reports from ESPN's Adam Schefter and Yahoo's Jason Cole indicate that talks are breaking down. Another report out of St. Louis says the Rams are out of the bidding.

The issue seems to be that Chargers general manager A.J. Smith is holding firm to his desire to get a second- and third-round pick out of the deal. Smith has gained a reputation for holding a line in negotiations, which is why Jackson and tackle Marcus McNeil are holding out in the first place, but the Vikings also aren't known to pay more than their estimated value for a player either – see T.J. Houshmandzadeh and LaDainian Tomlinson over the last two free-agent periods.

The reality is that the passing of the 3 p.m. Central deadline Wednesday is the only time a deal should be considered dead. Until then, both parties have the option to change their parameters and either give in, meet in the middle, or give up.
