Peterson named NFC offensive player of the week

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson has earned NFC offensive player of the week honors for his 160-yard performance against Detroit. This is different from the fan-voting award mentioned below.

The award is Peterson's fourth of his career. He rushed for 160 yards on 23 attempts with a pair of rushing touchdowns and added five receptions for 30 yards.

His 80-yard touchdown run was the longest run by a Viking in Mall of America Field, was the longest of his career and is tied for the fourth-longest in Vikings history. Peterson notched his 21st career 100-yard game and 10th career run of 50-plus yards, both second in team history behind Robert Smith's 29 and 12, respectively.

Peterson up for weekly award

Vikings running back Adrian Peterson is one of three backs up for the weekly FedEx Ground Player of the Week, an honor chosen by fans.

Peterson rushed 23 times for 160 yards, the best single-game output in the NFC so far this season. His yardage included an 80-yard touchdown run, the longest of his career and the longest in the NFL this year.

His competition for the award is Tennessee's Chris Johnson, who rushed 32 times for 125 yards and two TDs in a 29-10 win over the New York Giants, and Pittsburgh's Rashard Mendenhall, who had 19 carries for 143 yards and a touchdown in the Steelers' 38-13 win over Tampa Bay.

Fans can vote at NFL.com/FedEx from through 11 a.m. Central on Friday to determine the FedEx Air & Ground NFL Players of the Week.

Allen warned of QB retaliation

Vikings defensive end Jared Allen downplayed his scuffle with Lions players immediately after the game, but he gave more details of what went on during the pushing and shoving to Jay Glazer during "The After Party" on FoxSports.com.

It seems that former Vikings QB Shaun Hill was at the center of the controversy.

"I think it's funny," Allen said of getting involved in a scuffle with a quarterback. "It's like your little brother. You know you really can't hit him because of the fact the league protects them. Even the ref was saying, 'You gotta be careful, that's a quarterback.' So if it was like a running back, it'd be cool.

"I got a laugh out of it when me and the O-linemen were pushing back and forth, how he ran back in and tried to spear me."

Actually, Allen did give Hill some respect for standing up for his teammates.

"Hey, you know what? More power to him. I like that. At least he's not a pushover."

The Vikings got into the win column with their 24-10 victory over the Lions, and the importance of the victory wasn't lost on Allen.

"That victory was huge, especially a win in that dominating of fashion," Allen said.

Glazer also brought viewers into the training camp dorm of Allen, which featured some interesting posters. Think of posters that teenage girls would have hanging in their bedrooms.
