Vikings hold 17-14 halftime lead

The Vikings answered both Packers touchdowns in the first half with their ensuing drives and converted a 28-yard field goal to take a 17-14 halftime lead.

There were clearly two different approaches in the first half. The Vikings have 130 yards rushing and 70 passing. The Packers have 227 passing and 41 rushing.

Aaron Rodgers has completed 13 of 21 for 227 yards and a touchdown, but he also has two interceptions. Neither of them led to Vikings points, but they killed two possessions in Minnesota territory.

Adrian Peterson already has 68 yards on 14 carries for the Vikings, while Percy Harvin has chipped in with 41 yards rushing and Toby Gerhart even has 21 yards on four carries.

Defensively, the Vikings allowed touchdowns on two of the Packers' first three drives, as Rodgers and company were clearly targeting rookie Chris Cook in his first game back from a meniscus surgery. But after giving up back-to-back 32 and 36 yard receptions to Cook's side of the field, the Vikings pulled him in favor of recently signed Frank Walker.

Peterson and Harvin have the Vikings' touchdowns, both of them on rushing plays up the middle – Peterson for 1 yard and Harvin for 17 on a well-executed misdirection play.

Tyrell Johnson starting; Vikings inactives

The Vikings already knew they would be without starting safety Husain Abduallah, but cornerback Lito Sheppard is also inactive, meaning recently acquired Frank Walker could see some action in dime situations.

Rookie cornerback Chris Cook is active, but second-year player Asher Allen is expected to start with Cook coming in during nickel situations.

Safety Tyrell Johnson will make the start for Abdullah. Johnson was inactive the last three games with Jamarca Sanford being the primary backup at both safety positions.

Other inactives for the Vikings: Joe Webb (third QB), WR Hank Baskett, RB Albert Young, LB Erin Henderson, G Chris DeGeare and DT Fred Evans.

Inactive for the Packers: FB Quinn Johnson, LB Brady Poppinga, LB Maurice Simpkins, T Mark Tauscher, G Nick McDonald, G/T Marshall Newhouse, DE Mike Neal and DE Michael Montgomery, who spent the offseason with the Vikings.

Rookie Bryan Bulaga will be making the start at right tackle for Tauscher.

Vikings won't face Harris, Bigby

The Vikings may have their own issues in the secondary (Lito Sheppard is questionable and Chris Cook may not be ready to start), but the Vikings won't be facing a couple of former starters in the Packers defensive backfield.

Cornerback Al Harris and safety Atari Bigby weren't not activated off Green Bay's physically unable to perform list on Saturday, according to the Green Bay Press Gazette, and therefore won't be available for the Packers in Sunday night's game.

The Packers also elected to leave backup running back James Starks on the PUP.

Both of the defensive backs went through the week of work, the first week they were eligible to participate in practice this season, but they apparently weren't healthy enough to play.

"I feel good, but I don't know what's what," Harris said on Friday, according to the Gazette. "However the process goes, I'm for it. If it's this week or next week or however the process goes, I'm ready for it.

"Of course, I would love to play, am eager to play, but at the same time I'm respective of the process and the decision making. They've been good to me. They told me to get well and however long it takes, just get better. As unloyal as this business is, I thought that was a pretty heads up move by them."
