Belichick expecting to see Favre

Patriots coach Bill Belichick isn't buying speculation that Vikings quarterback Brett Favre won't play this coming Sunday after fracturing his ankle in two places Sunday night at Lambeau Field.

Belichick compared Favre to Lou Gehrig, according to New England Comcast Network.

Favre has started 291 consecutive games, but he was in a walking boot Monday, according to Vikings coach Brad Childress. The Vikings travel to New England for a game Sunday.

"Of course, he's started 8,000 games so far," Belichick said when asked if he'll prepare for Favre on Sunday at Gillette Stadium. "That's the same thing we were all talking about with (Chargers TE Antonio) Gates last week. He wasn't going to play, and all that. But I don't think you can ever count players like that out.

"Of course I expect (Favre) to be there, but you have to be ready for everybody."

Belichick also said he has "better knowledge" of Vikings WR Randy Moss after coaching him for three-plus seasons.

Moss, pretty much in keeping with protocol of late, declined to speak with reporters again Monday in the Vikings locker room after not even acknowledging requests from a reporter on Sunday night.

Answers on Favre today?

The Vikings' passing offense didn't move up or down in the rankings based on yardage, but after three costly interceptions from QB Brett Favre, his effectiveness certainly moved down in fan rankings.

Two of Favre's interceptions led to 14 points for the Packers in the third quarter, easily enough explaining a four-point loss.

Favre is ranked 30th in the league in passer rating at 68.0, 32nd in interception percentage and 25th in completion percentage. After his first two interceptions took the Vikings from a 17-14 lead to a 28-17 deficit in the third quarter, it's understandable that Vikings coach Brad Childress was considering pulling him.

Favre said Childress never approached him about that possibility and Childress said he wanted to give Favre one more series before making that move. The Vikings produced a touchdown on that series and Favre ended up finishing the game.

With his day-after press conference coming this afternoon, it will be interesting to see what Childress says about the health of Favre's ankle, which was causing him considerable discomfort Sunday after the game.
