Vikings trail 14-10 at the half

The Vikings have only surrendered 14 yards on the ground, but they have given up 14 points. A 96-yard kickoff return for a touchdown and a two missed tackles at the end of the first half allowed the Cardinals to take a 14-10 lead to halftime.

At least three times during the first half, the Vikings/Brad Childress were hearing boos or "Fire Childress" chants at the Metrodome, including as Childress left the field for the halftime locker room.

Adrian Peterson has the Vikings' only touchdown of the game on a 12-yard swing pass early in the second quarter after a scoreless first quarter. LaRod Stephens-Howling's kickoff return followed, but Minnesota answered with a 21-yard field goal from Ryan Longwell to take back the lead, 10-7.

However, the Vikings defense couldn't contain the two-minute offense and Arizona went 81 yards. When Husain Abdullah and Chris Cook missed tackles on a pass to Larry Fitzgerald, he scored a 30-yard touchdown for Arizona's 14-10 halftime lead.

Wilfs greet Childress before the game

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf spent some of the pregame seemingly trying to avoid the media, but about 45 minutes before the game he came over to a group of reporters and issued a one-sentence statement.

"I think the big thing right now is to win this game and we're two-time division champions and we're going to fight our ass off," Wilf said.

He didn't take any questions about the status of head coach Brad Childress, who is enduring heavy criticism the last week with a 2-5 record. When Childress arrived on the field, he was greeted with a mild round of boos and met Zygi and Mark Wilf at the midfield. The owners greeted him with handshakes and spoke for a few minutes.

It's hard to gauge things before the game, but with reports of more and more friction among players and coaches, it will be interesting to see how things are handled in the minutes and hours following the game.

Harvin active

Percy Harvin is active for the Vikings, despite not practicing until Friday.

Harvin is the Vikings' leading receiver with 31 catches for 393 yards and three touchdowns, but he was still limping at times during warmups. He and Bernard Berrian are listed as the starters at wide receiver with Randy Moss no longer on the roster and they remain there, according to the pregame announcements made in the press box.

Other inactives for the Vikings: QB Joe Webb (third QB), S Tyrell Johnson, RB Albert Young, CB Frank Walker, LB Erin Henderson, OL Chris DeGeare and DT Letroy Guion.

For the Cardinals, WR Max Komar, QB John Skelton, CB A.J. Jefferson, S Matt Ware, LB Clark Haggans, LB Reggie Walker, C Ben Claxton, DT Gabe Watson.

Further proof of Childress' thin line

Brad Childress has never been extremely popular in the Vikings locker room since taking over in 2006 and bringing the much-discussed "culture of accountability."

His sway with fans is mostly gone, and it appears to be the same in the locker room, according to an ESPN report that quotes multiple unnamed players.

"I think there was a great window of opportunity this past week to make a change," one veteran player told ESPN's Ed Werder.

Vikings owner Zygi Wilf reportedly considered making a change with Childress after he the coach announced to the players he was releasing Randy Moss on Monday. According to the report, some players also thought it was time for Moss to go, despite being with the Vikings for only four games.

But clearly, there are other issues with Childress dealing with his players.

One player described Childress as untrustworthy, according to the ESPN report.

"The players have had enough of his BS. He needs to go," one player told Werder.

Fans have been trying to organize for a rally against Childress today at the Metrodome, so it will be as interesting of a game off the field as it is on the field.

Sidney Rice not playing Sunday

After a week of leaving open the possibility of Sidney Rice being able to play on Sunday, the Vikings had two differing views on the topic Friday.

Head coach Brad Childress seemed more willing Friday to consider the possibility than he was earlier in the week.

"He's made it through the whole practices, but in a different kind of capacity," Childress said after Friday's practice. "He's taken turns with our starters. He's taken a lot of turns on the scout team. We've kind of mixed and matched him there. He takes the whole game plan in and goes through it. He's working through some soreness right now. You might say he could play in a limited sector. That's all being determined. I think probably next week's more viable. We're still going to see."

Rice quickly put an end to that.

"I'm not playing Sunday," Rice said shortly afterwards.

Actions have to speak louder than words these days at Winter Park, and with the close of league business on Saturday, the Vikings did not activate Rice, according to FOXSports.com's Adam Caplan, meaning Rice won't be playing Sunday.

The Vikings didn't fill that final spot on the 53-man roster.
