Harvin questionable for Bears game

Brad Childress called an audible on Percy Harvin's status for Sunday's game in Chicago.

Childress said at his press conference right after Friday's practice that he would be listing Harvin as "doubtful," but about an hour later when the injury report was released, Harvin was questionable.

"He did some things today in a limited fashion, but that thing hasn't completely cleared yet," Childress said, referring to Harvin's migraine headaches.

Childress said Harvin's ankle didn't seem to be "significantly" bothering him.

Harvin missed practice on Wednesday and Thursday because of migraine headaches, but he practiced on a limited basis Friday.

CB Asher Allen, who has been out all week with post-concussion symptoms, is listed as doubtful, as is safety Jamarca Sanford, who suffered a hamstring injury Sunday. Neither of the defensive backs practiced Friday.

QB Brett Favre (ankle, foot, calf), DT Pat Williams (elbow), DE Everson Griffen (shoulder), T Phil Loadholt (knee), CB Lito Sheppard (hand) and CB Frank Walker (hamstring) are all probable.

For the Bears, CB Zackary Bowman (foot) and C Olin Kreutz (hamstring) are questionable.

The many faces of Moss

Randy Moss is a complex man. He'll tell off a reporter at one turn and help out a kid at the next. That's what made him such a touch character to cover. He rarely let the media in, especially in his second time around with the Vikings, which lasted less than a month before his release.

Associated Press sports writer Jon Krawzcynski put together an excellent story on Moss that helped show Moss from both angles, the good and the bad.

"Randy's always lived in a fish bowl," said Tim DiPiero, one of Moss' first agents. "He always doesn't come across as real open. He lets his guard down when he's around kids. But around adults that he doesn't know, he's very cautious.

"When you get to know him, he's funny. That's why his teammates like him so much, because he's a character. He's funny. He gets people pumped up. He's competitive. And he's hilarious."

Some Vikings players, and especially head coach Brad Childress, didn't find Moss all that funny. But there is no questioning his athletic abilities, which have been on display for decades now.

"He is the greatest athlete I have ever seen on film in high school, bar none," said college coaching legend Lou Holtz, who tried to recruit Moss to Notre Dame but eventually had to revoke his scholarship after Moss got in a fight in high school. "Nobody like him."

The entire story can be viewed here. It's worth a read.

Harvin returns, secondary still thin

Vikings receiver Percy Harvin is back at practice with the Vikings Friday after spending Wednesday and Thursday visiting doctors while trying to get him past the latest bout with migraine headaches.

Harvin was running routes during the individual drills that were open to the media on Friday.

While Harvin returned to action, starting right CB Asher Allen remained sidelined as he tries to recover from a concussion suffered Sunday. Safety Jamarca Sanford also appears to be sidelined for a third consecutive day after pulling a hamstring Sunday.

If Allen can't play, rookie Chris Cook would likely be re-inserted into the starting lineup and either Lito Sheppard or Frank Walker would assume a role in the nickel defense.

Offensive tackle Pat Brown was also back practicing with the Vikings as a member of the practice squad. The Vikings re-signed him on Thursday and released offensive lineman Andrew Gardner from the practice squad. Brown is wearing number 79.
