Favre's shoulder finally lands on injury report

Brett Favre has been on the injury report most of the season, but this week he had his throwing shoulder added to ankle and foot injuries that were listed. He has also had his right elbow and chin listed at different points this season.

Favre had surgery on his throwing shoulder in May 2009 and delayed signing with the Vikings last year because of it. ESPN reported that Favre felt a "sharp pain" in his shoulder on Nov. 13, the day before the Bears game and was considering a pain-killing injection that was eventually deemed unnecessary.

Favre also said Wednesday he might have the flu.

Favre practiced on a limited basis Wednesday, which he also did last week, when he said he had his best week of practice since joining the Vikings in 2009.

In other injury news, also limited were DE Jared Allen (neck), WR Bernard Berrian (groin), S Eric Frampton (hamstring) and S Husain Abdullah (ankle).

The Redskins will be placing RB Clinton Portis on injured reserve because of a groin injury.

LB Lorenzo Alexander (hamstring), DE Jeremy Jarmon (hamstring), S LaRon Landry (Achilles), LB Rocky McIntosh (thigh) and RB Ryan Torain (hamstring) did not practice for Washington on Wednesday. WR Brandon Banks (knee), G Derrick Dockery (knee), DE Vernon Golston (elbow/groin), G Artis Hicks (thigh), WR Santana Moss (knee), C Casay Rabach (knee) and CB Carlos Rogers (hamstring) were limited.

Leslie Frazier's first practice

Vikings interim head coach Leslie Frazier said he wanted a quicker tempo at practice and that appeared to be happening to some degree at the start of Wednesday's session that the media is allowed to watch.

"Lot of firsts today. Had our first walkthrough together in this role, and guys were really engaged, which is a plus for us," Frazier said in between Wednesday sessions. "Hopefully that'll be the case this afternoon when we come back and have our first practice together, and looking forward to lining up on Sunday against the Washington Redskins."

The highlight was a new apparatus for the defensive line, but clearly defensive line coach Karl Dunbar was not used to the structure, constructed of PVC piping, being around. When the defensive linemen were pushing around the five-man sled, Dunbar backed up to get out of the way and tripped over the new practice tool, which, of course, led to plenty of razzing from his players.

The songs playing during the stretching portion of practice likely had a meaning – "Don't stop believing" and "Nothin' but a good time."

As far as player participation, safety Jamarca Sanford looked like he will be missing practice after re-injuring his hamstring in Sunday's game.

McNabb doesn't believe Minnesota's in his future

Donovan McNabb has been a player that Vikings have long speculated about, but now that Brad Childress is no longer the Vikings coach the point may be moot.

After McNabb signed a contract extension with the Washington Redskins earlier this month, that possibility became even more unlikely. During a conference call with reporters on Wednesday, McNabb said he believes his future will be in Washington next year and beyond, despite conflicting reports that his extension doesn't guarantee much in the way of long-term security.

"I don't know where all of that came from. I know what was in my contract, and I don't kind of get caught up into that what whole deal," he said. "And nor should I. I think for myself, it's just to continue to prepare and to continue to go out and play well.

"I know that I'll be back here next year and for the next couple of years. That's the way I see it. I don't know what everybody else is kind of looking into. But like anything else that kind of involves me, what else is new?"

McNabb still has an affiliation with the Vikings coaching staff, as interim head coach Leslie Frazier was a defensive coach during McNabb's days in Philadelphia and quarterbacks coach Kevin Rogers was at Syracuse, McNabb's alma mater, as a quarterbacks coach, assistant head coach and offensive coordinator.

"We kind of talk when we see each other," McNabb said of Frazier. "We compete against each other. I'll send messages through Kevin or Brad or whoever and tell them I said hello."
